Dr Maria Oikonomou

Dr Maria Oikonomou after acquiring her medical degree from the University of Athens , specialized in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Athens and in London, where she became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). She then subspecialized in Reproductive Endocrinology (IVF – Infertility), in Laparoscopic Surgery and in the treatment of Endometriosis at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and at Homerton University Hospital in London. In 2023 she decided to return to Greece where she currently practisises as a Consultant in Reproductive Medicine.

The doctor has achieved a Masters Degree in the Management of High Risk Pregnancies from the Medical School of the University of Athens and she has done extensive research as a PhD candidate on the management of women with low Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) and Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI)

During her training in Assisted Conception, Dr Oikonomou was in charge of the “Fertility for Women over the age of 40” program and of the “Egg Freezing for women and adolescents with Endometriosis and Malignancies” Program at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in collaboration with the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. The main goal of the later being to help women preserve their fertility for both medical and social reasons.

In 2023, Dr Oikonomou completed her subspeciality training in Reproductive Medicine and achieved the ATSM in Subfertility from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in the UK. She also holds an accreditation in Gynaecologic Ultrasound (2D and 3D) and in conducting Hysterosalpingo-Contrast Sonography (HyCoSy) as well as Aqua Scans from the British Fertility Society (BFS).

Dr Oikonomou was also part of the teaching team at Imperial College London, where she frequently gave lectures in Reproductive Endocrinology to final year medical students. She is a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology (ESHRE) and of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
